My role

Full-Stack Developer · React & Google APIs

  • Designed a serverless architecture using the Google Sheets and Google Drive APIs as the data layer.
  • Built the React.js app staff and contractors use in the field to record installations.
  • Implemented real-time progress tracking across the replacement programme.
  • Delivered in two months, within the programme's budget.
The challenge

The Passaic Valley Water Commission needed to track lead-line replacements across staff and contractors.

A conventional build with a dedicated backend and database would have cost more and taken longer than the budget allowed.

The solution

A React.js web app backed by Google Sheets and Drive through their APIs, using tools the team already knew, with no server or database to buy, host or maintain.

01

Serverless by design

Google Sheets and Drive APIs replaced a dedicated backend.

02

Field-friendly UI

A simple React.js interface for staff and contractors.

03

Real-time tracking

Everyone sees installation progress as it happens.

The results
  • Built at 80% lower cost than a traditional backend.
  • Real-time installation tracking for staff and contractors.
  • Delivered quickly and within budget.
